I investigate women subjected to culture, geography and tradition as part of my introspective examination of femininity. I’m challenging our nuanced quiet and loud sharpness of mind by exploring la pena— passive violence, docility, beauty and eternal emotional burdens. My painting stills are about the action of observation in third-person into remarkable women. My family is the subject of study, for they are the ones I witness. I trace my personal relationships with them, as well as their relationships to each other, according to my eyes. I’m constructing an imaginative window of sustained reality, drawing from their naturality and complexities. I carry my Mexican heritage with me, embedded and transformed within my motifs. It is a reminder of the anticipated existence that a cultural lineage grants, and questions how identity and experience intertwine. I paint and embellish the scene to conceal rawness.his with your Artist Statement
